Who is Debbie Phelps?
Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last month, you probably know Michael Phelps is. A world record 8 gold medals in swimming at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. But just as (or possibly more) interesting is Michael's mom, Debbie Phelps. Here are some neat facts about Debbie.
Debbie Phelps is 57 years old. She was married but divorced her husband years ago. Debbie has three children, 2 girls and 1 son. That means Michael Phelps has two sisters! Debbie raised her family in Baltimore, Maryland.
Unlike Michael, Debbie can't making a living swimming, so what does she do? She's a middle school principal at Windsor Mill Middle School.
When Michael was diagnosed with ADHD at age 9, Debbie Phelps thought the best solution was to "get him in the swimming pool". What an amazing choice.
Debbie admits her cooking doesn't contribute much to Michaels success, as she calls herself an "eat-out mom". So what are her keys to helping Michael succeed? "Just love your kid".
Recently, Debbie Phelps signed a six-figure deal with Chico's to model their clothes. She will be appearing on Opera tomorrow wearing some clothes from Chico's, so we'll see how good she really looks!
