Today is Grandparents Day 2008
Written on Sunday, September 7th 2008 at 3:30 pm by alexToday is National Grandparents Day in America. I'm sure many people haven't heard if it (unless you're a grandparent), and unlike Valentines day, it wasn't just made up by card and candy companies.
In 1970, Marian McQuade initiated a special day just for grandparents.
The first grandparent's day was proclaimed in 1973 in West Virginia.
In 1978, Congress signed it into law, proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day would be Grandparents Day.
September was chosen for the holiday, to signify the "autumn years" of life.
Much like Mother's day and Father's day, this day is meant to honor your grandparents, pamper them for a full day, talk when them for a few hours and just love them. - View comments...
